23A- Your Venture's Unfair Advantage

·       Generate a list of all of the resources in your venture (produce a list of at least 10 resources that you already possess). This can include your human capital, social capital, financial capital, and capabilities. You may also discuss the organizational culture you intend to create.
    1. The support of Politicians, Lobbyist, Local government officials, participation from schools nationwide, government volunteer assistants
      • Gathering support of politicians, lobbyist, local government officials, participation from schools nationwide, government volunteer assistants could be tough. With the agendas of many politicians full of other things, directed more towards improving the lives of their citizens and communities, I don’t believe a government subsidy on college education is unlikely to get the attention of enough government officials.
    2. Enough financial capital to subsidize college tuition for qualifying students.
      • Acquiring financial capital can be easier in some sectors, such as residential and commercial real estate. It is not as easy for sectors such as a government subsidy for college tuition. This can be harder to get approved by taxpayers and government officials to cut back government spending for the future of many young Americans.
    3. The cooperation and acceptance of our subsidy by various University’s Bursars offices as payment.
      • Without the acceptance of this government subsidy by Universities and College across the country, we would be unable to accomplish our goal. As a government subsidy, this would differ from many scholarships which are sent in the form of cash. This government subsidy would be sent directly to the University of the students’ choice. We would need full cooperation from universities to accept this scholarship as form of payment for these students.
    4. Enough capital to hire recruiters, board of directors, acceptance experts, interviewers.
      • In order to select the right students, this government subsidy would create jobs within the community. A board of directors, recruiters, acceptance experts and interviewers would be necessary to properly select these students. Without proper guidance and hiring, the government subsidy could be a colossal waste of money. Accepting the students who qualify and need the subsidy the most should be selected carefully.
    5. Create a community for students who receive this subsidy, creating an alumni association for future students to make connections.
      • Creating the right culture for this subsidy is important. If this subsidy were executed properly, this would create a program where hard working and qualifying students would be given a discounted college tuition, while also linking them into a community of experienced alumni. This would give them the opportunity to capture internships, shadowing opportunities, and the connections needed to succeed upon graduation.
    6. The culture of this subsidy would create a “Heisman Trophy” like relationship between past winners and future recipients.
      • This program would create the opportunity for these scholarship/subsidy recipients to bridge the gap needed for many of these college students. I feel this is very likely to be achieved.
    7. If this program grew to become a staple for many high achieving high school students, the opportunity to create a “Non-for profit” company, broken off from governmental subsidizing can become a viable option.
      • Though, the idea is primarily based off of a decrease in some areas of governmental spending, the idea of eventually becoming a non-for-profit business is very realistic and generally thought to be a sensible option.
    8. Market the scholarship and speak at High Schools across the country.
      • I believe motivating students at the beginning of the academic school year can be a motivational tool for many. The idea of visiting schools across the country and spreading the knowledge of this subsidy/scholarship should bring out the competitiveness in every student. I believe that speaking at many schools across the country, encouraging the hard-working environment, motivating these students on the exciting idea of college is something that can change the lives of many.
    9. Create an opportunity to represent many different people, of many nationalities, backgrounds, with different futures and share the opportunity of creating a better future through affordable college education.
      • The cost of college can prevent many from being granted the experience of a lifetime, while educating and preparing for the future. As a college student who has enjoyed everything that the experience has offered, I feel it is something that every hard working, willing and determined student should feel.
    10. Creating a foundation for alumni to donate to create more jobs related to this scholarship.
      • The opportunity to grant students a college education is wonderful and a kick starter for many but creating jobs for many is another objective this scholarship has in store. Creating jobs for many will allow this scholarship to give back to the community.
Aside from the startup money, governmental assistance and backing, I believe the most important resource would be the creation of a community for students who receive this subsidy/scholarship and creating an alumni association for future students to make connections that will help them succeed upon graduation.

  3. Hi Jake,
I really like the resources that you chose to highlight that would make your venture have an advantage. I also like the idea of creating an alumni organization, this will be a great way to raise money for future costs. It's a great way to get tax-free money donated to your venture. I also agree that government backing would be very big in kicking off your venture because of the large amount of capital and assistance they can offer.
