I’ve been lucky enough to have been exposed to
entrepreneurship early in my life. As a kid with very “traditional” parents, if
I wanted something that wasn’t shelter, water, food, clothing, or a need, it
was up to me to find a way to accrue enough money to at least “pitch in” for
that want. I began my entrepreneurship endeavors as a young boy washing cars in
my neighborhood, selling customized rubber wristbands in middle school, and
reselling my used baseball equipment, to name a few. I am incredibly grateful
for these opportunities and experiences, which have taught me the value of
money, the entrepreneurship process, and gave me my entrepreneurship roots, to
name a few.
Growing up
in a retail clothing store owned by my parents, I began gaining valuable sales
experience, a desirable worth ethic and the want to make a sale to acquire
commission. I realized at a young age that I eventually wanted to conduct and
own a business. This sparked my entrepreneurship fire at young age.
I enrolled
in ENT 3003 to take a course closely related to my fields of interest that
would help me gain the experience and knowledge I need. As a converted
Economics major, I have a desire to gain the knowledge necessary to succeed as
an entrepreneur. I hope to improve as an entrepreneur by expanding my thought
process to revolve primarily around ways to solve problems that surround myself
and my classmates. Aligning my thoughts around solvable problems that concern
myself and my classmates will allow me to generate ideas worthy of solving
these problems in a capitalistic way.
It's inspiring to hear how hard you worked from a young age! Thank you for sharing. I would love to learn more about what it was like to work in a retail store when you were young and trying to earn a commission! I think ENT303 is the perfect class for you based on your background.
ReplyDeleteReading about your hustle and drive to be an entrepreneur at a young age is very inspiring. Its really cool that your parents made you take initiative from a young age to work for material things. I believe that drive will pay great dividends in your future to opening up your own business. ENT3003 might be a good class for you to learn and improve your entrepreneurship skills later on in life. Great post Jake!
ReplyDeleteI think that you are very lucky to have the opportunity to experience an entrepreneur at a young age, I think that you have good experience now, and already know the basics of entrepreneurship. I also think that this class will help you a lot, just to improve all the skills that you have already learned at a young age.
ReplyDeleteThat's really awesome to have a work ethic instilled in you at such a young age. It must've taught you a lot about the basics of building a company. Also learning the skills from your parents on how they run their business could give you a head start in starting your own business. Now you can put those skills you learned into practice in this class and hopefully into a new business when you start it.
